Hello All,

It is great to be back home from the Toastmasters Convention.  It was amazing experience to spend time with Toastmasters from across the globe learning, watching members compete in the International Championship of Public Speaking, and having fun!!  If you have an opportunity to attend a Toastmasters Convention - I would highly encourage you to do so!  It is a life changing experience!!

It was thrilling to hear the results of of the Taped Speech Contest announced by our International President during the International Championship of Public Speaking.  For those who are unaware of what the Taped Speech Contest entails it is an opportunity for the undistricted clubs to send an audio recording of the speech of their first place International Speech contest winner.  It is the next best method to competing on the big stage.  After hearing a handful of undistricted clubs participated in the contest I figured we had excellent odds of at least one of our YACT members being recognized.  Last year we encouraged our members to compete in the contest.  It was inspiring to hear our YACT members won first, second, and third place in the contest!!  Way to go!!!  I was cheering at the top of my lungs for everyone - I suspect they heard me in the front of the auditorium!  I am so proud our members take opportunities that are available to them whether it be competing in a contest, taking on a leadership role, or taking a stretch goal to go beyond their comfort zone!  This is what Toastmasters is all about - learning by doing!

There is also news about the future of YACT which some of you may have heard by now.  There was an announcement made about YACT during the Board of Directors briefing Wednesday during the Toastmasters Convention.  Toastmasters has decided to discontinue the Territorial Council model effective July 1, 2015.
I am sure you have questions about this and will continue to have questions.  As you have questions please post them on our Frequently Asked Questions section of this website or contact our Council Governor, Angela Ritchey.
I know there will be different reactions to the news.  Some members will be happy with the news, others will be shocked at first and eventually accept the news, and others may not perceive this as a good direction for YACT.  I am choosing to see this as a positive move for our members.  The results of the taped speech contest prove our members are eager for additional opportunities beyond the club level.

This is one of the topics we'll be discussing during our the General Council Meeting at the 2014 Fall Conference.

Rest assured, I am working closely with Toastmasters International Headquarters, the District 32 Governor, and District 96 Governor to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.  We all want this to be a positive experience for our members.  The District Governors and I are forming a transition team that will comprise of leaders and members of District 32, District 96, and YACT

Communications will be sent out periodically to keep you informed.
As I mentioned to someone at the Convention we are going to continue to support all clubs in achieving excellence, promote Toastmasters to the community, frame this transition positively for our members, and make this the best year yet!

If you have any questions, etc. please do not hesitate to contact me.

Warmest regards,
Angela Ritchey, ACG, ALB
